Sign TEKnology

When my Ventura Publisher and the associated vertical market collapsed, the next step was to cater to a new market. We chose the market for vinyl sign designing and cutting. We established dealerships for cutters with Roland, Summagraphics and a few smaller companies. We also became a dealer for the expensive Amiable Flexisign software. We eventually found drivers that would allow sign cutting from Corel Draw which we knew well. We sold signmaking solutions to several sign shops as well as some high profile clients such as Basha’s and Phoenix Transit. We also made signs for some prominent businesses and events including Firebird International Raceway and The Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction.

Sign Teknology was good for us and was a good match for our technical skills. My son, Darin, played a big role in this business and was our expert trainer on Amiable Technologies Flexisign. We became dealers for Roland and Summagraphics vinyl sign cutters and built computers for the sign making systems we sold.

All our prosperity in this business came to an end when we had a burglary and thieves broke through a glass window and stole all our computers, vinyl cutters and inventory in 1995. Darin held several jobs at sign shops as a designer and trainer on Flexisign. Darin and I both did website design work following the burglary.
